First Dip Of Summer

Some people are still preparing for the upcoming summer season but for me and my university friends, it's summer time already. A midst our super hectic schedule at work, we agreed to have a mini-reunion. Mini reunions are usually held in a McDonald but this time, it's different. Guess where?!

This time, it's an out-of-the-town outing, away from the fast paced city life and more closer to nature. We decided to go to a beach somewhere south of Cebu, the town is called Moalboal. To reach there, we traveled approximately 3 hours from Cebu South Bus Terminal. We took Ceres Bus Liner with the route "Bato via Barili". We had one stop over at Barili, where people can buy some food or snacks, withdraw money, answer to the call of nature (e.g. peeing, pooping) and a lot more. The stop over will be just 10 to 15mins.

Bas Dako Beachline (Bas Dako is a Cebuano term for wide beach line.)

Once you arrive at the Moalboal town proper, you can buy some stuffs you most likely need while staying like water, food and other supplies because beach area is kinda far. You need to take a 10-minute tricycle ride going to the resort you'll be staying. I suggest, you guys should stay beach resort at Bas Dako area so that you guys can enjoy the wide beach line. When we went there, we stayed at Magic's place. It's a cozy place good for backpackers who are travelling in groups and with limited budget. It's nice because you can bring food of your own choice without corkage fee and if you guys bring something to cook, you guys can request  from them to cook it for you. The owner was really accommodating to us.

Packed but surely we fit in just 3 in beds. Isn't it awesome?!
We rented an air-conditioned family room, with own bathroom and toilet. It has 3 beds made of bamboo. They don't have limit for how many people who'll gonna stay inside as long as you guys are comfortable and can fit in the beds. We were 10 adults and a kid, what we did is we move the bed closer to each other so that we can fit in.
Enjoying the beach while everyone else are sleeping...

While some of us were sleeping because they got a little bit exhausted of our bus travel off to the resort, some of us were busy exploring the beach, it's white sand and it's water of course. While in there, we were approach by a vendor selling fresh sea urchin. She told us that a pail of sea urchins will cost us 100 pesos only and they were willing to clean it for us. We found it as a very good deal so one our friend bought a pail. And shared  it with the group.

Fresh sea urchin  in the pail and sea urchin meat inside the plastic cup. To eat it, you need to mix it with a little amount of vinegar.
We stayed at the beach up until sunset and enjoyed the water along with some local and foreign tourists. I love the sunset so much.  Sunset in Moalboal is really awesome.

Sunset in Moalboal...

For dinner, we ate grilled pork chop and hanging rice,we call it "puso" in our native dialect. Puso is a rice wrap with weave coconut leaves.

Who wants to try puso?!

After dinner time, this is the moment everyone is looking forward to. We plan to have a bonfire, gather around it, share about anything and play games. While some of us are excited to gather some materials for the bonfire, here comes the cottage owner telling us that bonfire is not allowed along the beach for it will ruined the sand. Everyone of us got sad. T.T

Warmth of the bonfire stands the warmth of our friendship...
But the owner gave us some tips on how to make a bonfire without destroying the sand. She told us that we'll just use some candles instead. What we did was, we dug a small hole. Light 5 candles inside that hole. Bingo! We made an instant bonfire without destroying the sand. And the rest of the plan for the evening was followed. It was a great evening for every one of us. We had a great catching up, shared our various life's stories about our daily life's encounter. Of course, we didn't end the night without telling some goose bump stories.

The next day, we got up early and excitedly waitied for our island hopping tour guides, Our schedule was 7A.M. We were so lucky, we had great tour guides. They really gave us a great tour.

I was a little bit hesitant at first for our island hopping because that time the waves are really big.  And as we sailed, it's like as if the waves will crush as anytime. At the back of my mind, I silently told myself, "it's okay Jerry, you are insured." Up until, we saw these group of fisherman fishing in the designated area with their much smaller sailboat. Everyone of us were at ease until our guide told us "Guys, dolphins!". We were excited again upon seeing those flock of dolphins busy catching for food. We tried to chase them while chasing, we were meeting with waves' current that makes everyone of us shout because we thought that the waves will swallow our motor boat. And we girls pleaded to our guides, "Kuya, no more doplhin chasing please!".

Indeed, we head to our next destination which is, the Pescador Island, it's a nearby island where we had fish feeding. We had a close encounter with different colorful species of fishes and different kinds of corals.

Us at Pescador Island for fish feeding..
After there, we went immediately to the pawikan sanctuary (pawikan is a Philippine turtle, it's a specie of turtle that can be find here in the Philippines). There we saw lots of pawikans, some are swimming along with scuba divers, some are just staying at one place. It was a great experience. And it made me realize how beautiful and mysterious is the world underwater. And when I saw a trench, it makes me made up my mind that one of the most dangerous places here on earth is underwater. It's really, really scary. It was so deep and so dark.

That was one great adventure for me. And I really never regretted that I did come a midst the fact that I was a bit hesitant to come at first because of the ever changing weather. I surely wanna come again to play with dolphins. I wanna watch them dancing as they tug along with our motor boat. Our guide told us that the best season to do dolphin watching is around May to October because there are lots of flock of playful dolphins.
Me and my friend, Hannah. I'm teaching how to write her name in Korean

Tip: Beware of the jellyfish, I got a few souvenirs from them because I dunno how to swim so I didn't had the chance to run away from that tiny flesh like creature.. ^____^

Stay tune for my next adventure.
